Hi,
My name is Rob Garrido. I am pretty sure that if you're reading this, you were probably expecting some three paragraph blurb written in third person starting off with a quote from a pastor, journalist, or some well-respected music industry person telling you why I’m so wonderful and why you, too, should want to buy my recently released EP or book me for your next conference, festival, or church event.
You were probably expecting descriptive words like “prolific”, “passionate”, and “talented” placed in just the right spot to keep you interested. After that, there would be a tie-in line telling you about this mix of Rock, Pop, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, and Latin that we call my musical style ( come back later and maybe I’ll have some catchy name for this genre). Then, you might learn that I was born on the day before Valentines Day in Miami, FL and that my father is a minister. You might even find out that my favorite color is that same blue that Arizona uses for their Black Tea with Ginseng bottles. Then again, maybe not. Consider that a freebee just for you.
The truth is, I could tell you about growing up and being influenced by my dad’s love of jazz while also listening to Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Petra, White Heart, U2, Tracy Chapman, REM, Pearl Jam, Melissa Etheridge, indigo girls, and so many others. I’d even take a moment to tell you about my qualifications as a musician. After all, I did study vocal performance both at New World School of the Arts and the University of Miami’s Studio Music and Jazz Vocal program. Honestly, what I’ve done and with who matters very little. I consider myself blessed and humbled by the amount of experience I’ve gained working with some of the best musical minds around, but I don’t want to be measured by that. If you are interested in knowing that information, the truth is that we will have opportunities to talk about it. Just shoot me an email. Id love to grab coffee sometime.
If you are still reading this, then you need to know the most important thing about me: I am a Christian. My faith in Christ is at the very core of who I am, how I create, and how I love. With that said, being labeled a “Christian Musician” used to scared me. That and the label of "Worship Leader" used to make me cringe because of the unreal expectations we seem to have of the people who wear those labels. Now, they humble me. You see, I am also a man… a man who stumbles and falls and at times struggles with darkness. Being human and actually admitting it hasn't always flown too well with some of my more conservative "friends", so I always kinda feared the labels. Praise God that His grace is more than enough!
Bebo Norman once said: "You can't understand light unless you understand darkness, because that's where life is most often lived…somewhere between the two. It's messy and it's beautiful all at the same time." I want to be measured by the light that comes from Christ in me. I want to be measured by what it is that I create for and because of HIM and for what I create because of the blessing I've been given to be able to give and receive His love. My prayer is that you will choose to join me on this journey, and that you will be blessed in the process.
Thank you for taking a moment to get know me and my music.
All blessings, glory, and honor to Christ alone!
Rob
